Back Home – Reflections on New Zealand

“Memory is not what the heart desires. That is only a mirror.” – Gimli

Aotearoa, the original Maori name of New Zealand means “long, white cloud.” It’s a fitting name because of this country, the people we befriended there and the wonderful people I traveled with made it feel like a little slice of heaven. This all despite this being the farthest I’ve ever traveled to another country.

We all felt like we left a part of ourselves in this beautiful country. Almost like a seed that we will return to once it has grown to a tree. As time goes on and more memories elsewhere are made, the memories made here will endure.

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” – Gandalf

I’ll definitely “catch you up later”, NZ. Kia Ora.
